One could reasonably argue that, were it not for the French, America would not be the country it is today.
France provided crucial troops, weaponry and financing to patriots in the American Revolutionary War, helping them turn the tide against the British. And the French have stood by us through much of our history. In 1884, as a sign of friendship, the French people gifted us the Statue of Liberty, the most recognized symbol of America second only to the flag. Today, we celebrate France's fashion, cuisine, cinema and other aspects of its culture. About 9.4 million U.S. residents are of French descent.
In this work, I've carved a representation of the U.S. flag and superimposed the colors of the French flag. This work of art is a tribute to France, the French people and all Americans of French ancestry.
