Flags
My flag series celebrates Identity, Inclusion and Resilience. As we commemorate America's 250th birthday, I acknowledge Americans who have made significant contributions to the United States, even as some of them suffered greatly in their efforts to integrate into the country. I start each work by carving a representation of the U.S. flag then paint the flag of another identity group on top of it. Each flag is carved in wood, a fitting metaphor for the scars many carry.
