Metropolis
Metropolis is informed by architecture and urban elements. It thrills me when I see the precision of a soaring skyscraper, or the elegance of a multi-story reflective glass wall, or the geometric rigor of a street grid. But as a painter, I’m also interested in light and its translucence. I challenge myself to recreate that translucence through the layering of opaque paints and varnishes. I’ve discovered my layering technique creates a visual ‘shift’ that induces a meditative moment – almost as if a doorway or window has opened to a new other-worldly dimension. Metropolis is where the precision of the physical meets the ethereal of the spiritual.
